In 2021, President Biden became the first-ever president to issue a proclamation declaring the day recognized the contributions of native Americans to this country.
According to the United States Census Bureau, in 2020, 9.7 million are American Indian and Alaska Native, representing 2.9 percent of the U.S. population.
