ATHENA SILVERSMITH:
10 Years in Business!
This year marks my 10th year as a jewelry designer. As I look back, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my customers for reaffirming that unique jewelry designs are a wearable art form.
Art has always been a passion of mine. Since an early age, I cultivated drawing and art. I remember visiting jewelry design shops with my dad who owned a jewelry and watch retail business in Mexico City. I was fascinated as I watched the masters work with gold, silver and stones and then polish the pieces into shiny jewelry.
I began making handcrafted jewelry in 2011 and began selling at local events in and around San Antonio. In 2012, I launched my website but soon realized that I needed to study techniques to diversify my designs. So that year I enrolled at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas and learned the basics of metalsmithing and stone setting, studying such masters as Peter Carl Fabregé, Rene Lalique and Jacques Cartier. In 2016 I received my Associate's degree in Applied Science in Jewelry at Austin Community College. Today my handcrafted designs range from classic styles to trendy free form art, incorporating Filigree, recycled silver, and free form jewelry, in both sterling silver and copper, many with natural stone accents.Biography
